FALL WORKOUT FAVORITES

When the season changes, it’s also the perfect time to change up your workout tunes. And as always, I’m here to help. So let’s just get right to it, shall we?

Rider Spotlight: Survivor & Thriver

In honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we are rocking the ribbon to raise money and awareness, celebrate survivors, and make a real difference in the face of this disease. That’s why we’ve chosen breast cancer survivor Cindy Stewart to highlight in our Rider Spotlight. Along with overcoming tough circumstances, she was recently chosen as one of the Esteemed Women of Michigan 2016 based on her professional and volunteer services. Needless to say, we are amazed by Cindy, her accomplishments—and her ability to remain positive throughout it all. We’re proud to have her as a part of our CycleBar family.

OUT OF THE STUDIO AND INTO THE GREAT OUTDOORS

My husband and I are both runners, so every Saturday morning, we load up our little family, and head to the trail to hit the pavement. My husband pushes our daughters in a stroller, and I run alongside with our labradoodle. This flat, shaded stretch of land flocked by a thicket of trees and a babbling brook—with the mile markers conveniently painted onto the asphalt—is a runner’s and cyclist’s paradise. Maybe it’s the fresh air, or the endorphins, or that we’re being active together as a family; but it’s one of my favorite activities every weekend.

Rider Spotlight: Heather Harris

September 22 is American Business Women’s Day. We can think of no better way to commemorate the event than to celebrate our fearless leader, CycleBar President Heather Harris. We got a chance to talk to this athlete, exec, mother, competitor, sister, coach, aunt, decision-maker, and wonder woman to get an inside look at the secrets to her success.

Piano Jams

Seriously, who DOESN’T love piano music? I love it everywhere: in musicals, in children’s recitals, and in my workouts.

Rider Spotlight: Julie Pfaff

September 22 is American Business Women’s Day. We’re commemorating the event by celebrating the women who help make CycleBar a success. And because one day is not enough to pay homage to the strong women behind the brand, we’ll feature them on the blog all month long.

SING IT WITH ME NOW!

When I fall in love with a song, I want to learn all the words RIGHT NOW so I can belt it out at top volume in my car and the shower and everywhere. And that takes time and many repeated listenings. This is why I greatly appreciate when a song has a nonsensical hook that immediately enables me to sing along. Or, in the case of workout music, that immediately enables me to feel familiar and flat-out pumped about a new song to help me push through a tough ride.

TAKE YOUR RIDE INSIDE

I’m a true blue road bicyclist—there’s nothing like the Great Outdoors for clearing the mind or nuking a bad mood.

But when it’s 99 degrees with 100% humidity, or the forecast says there’s a 75% chance of apocalyptic hail with tornado-like winds, there’s something to be said for moving your crank addiction indoors.

ONCE UPON A STUDIO

In 2004, siblings Bill Pryor and Alex Klemmer set out to create one of the first independent cycling studios in the country. Bill and Alex come from a tight-knit family with seven(!) children, and they drew inspiration from their other sister’s small and successful cycling studio in Chicago.

I GET BY WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM MY CYCLE FRIENDS

I had only been working for CycleBar for about a week the first time I heard the name Tevia. Tevia is our Director of Instructor Training, which means that she teaches all of the CycleStar Instructors how to be awesome and inspiring and all that stuff. She is the guru, the oracle, the prophet, the instructor to end all instructors.

LET’S GET PHYSICAL [THERAPY]

Click, thump. Click, thump. Click, thump. My crutches clicked on the floor as I clumsily dragged myself into the studio for my first ride after knee surgery. I could not yet walk on my newly repaired knee, but I could ride, goshdarnit.
