I was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer in October 2018. In the time between my diagnosis and my double mastectomy 2 months later, my classes at CycleBar were my saving grace. The fun atmosphere, great instructors and awesome feeling I have when I complete a ride carried me through the pre-surgery stress. I've since had a second surgery and am working through some complications from them. I also will be on a medication with significant side effects. Staying in shape and challenging my physical self has always been important for me, and this journey has been no difference. My CycleBar family has been there through it all. CycleStar Wes, CycleStar Tass and the entire CycleCrew have amazing energy and their classes are motivating beyond the studio. The community from the classes is amazing too. I am humbled by their love and support.
In March, I partnered with CycleBar Dunwoody to host a fundraiser for breast cancer support. We packed the studio with friends and family and together we raised more than $3500. This money we raised will fund more research - helping us to learn more about the different types of breast cancers and the treatments that work best for them. It will help fund community-based breast health programs in Atlanta, so that all women have access to screenings no matter where they live. And, it will fund support programs, because not every woman has friends who will drive her children to school, buy Christmas presents and wrapping paper for her, or take visiting family members out to run errands. And for this support I'll forever be grateful.
You can usually find me at CycleBar on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:30 a.m. I am more energized than ever to live my best life and help others do the same.
