Hurricane Harvey tore through Houston just a few weeks ago, and thousands of people remain displaced. Families, businesses, parents, children—all still facing a long road home. Our own team at CycleBar Vintage Park is no exception, yet their response to this devastation is nothing less than exceptional.
Several of our staff members in Vintage Park were personally affected by Hurricane Harvey. Last week, we reached out to offer assistance—and we were absolutely amazed by their response. Forgoing any help for themselves, they asked that all donations be redirected to YES Prep, an open-enrollment public charter school system serving students in grades 6 through 12 in Houston’s most underserved communities. The idea came from CycleStar Instructor Caitlin Wales, who teaches at YES Prep. Caitlin and the Vintage Park team are committed to helping these children and families meet their basic needs during this time of crisis—and we’re going to do everything we can to make that happen.
With this in mind, we’re hosting fundraising rides at nearly 100 studios over the weeks to come, with 100% of the proceeds going directly to help the YES Prep families affected by Hurricane Harvey. We’ve got multiple ways to give: sign up for a ride and pledge a per-mile rate, or sign up for a fundraising ride in exchange for a donation. You can also buy We Ride for Texas hats and t-shirts to show your support.
Our goal is to raise $100,000 for this effort, and we can’t do it alone. So today, we challenge you to challenge yourself in giving. Head to your local studio, pick up some merch, and sign up for a fundraising ride. Ride for Texas. Ride for the families and children of YES Prep. Ride for all the people who’d probably love a chance to be riding alongside you.
Saddle up, everyone. We’ve got some lives to change.
